Louisville will take on South Dakota in the first game of the Cardinal Classic on Thursday night as the team looks to break a three-game losing streak.

On Thursday night South Dakota will take on Louisville in the first game of the Cardinal Classic at Ulmer Stadium. The Coyotes come into the tournament with a record of 14-13 and will look to turn in a solid performance over the weekend before conference play begins next week. The team's most recent game was played against Tennessee State on Wednesday night and resulted in a 5-2 victory. Alecea Mendoza led at the plate in the win, going 2-for-4. The runs were brought in by Clara Edwards, Delaney White and Autumn Iversen as they each had one hit. Edwards earned the win in the circle pitching a complete game and striking out 10.

The Cardinals are currently 16-8 overall, but dropped all three in their ACC opening series to move to 0-3 in conference play. The team played No. 15 Virginia Tech and were run-ruled in the first game by a score of 11-1 in five innings before forcing the second game into extra innings. The team eventually fell 5-2 in the 10th inning. On Sunday, Virginia Tech and Louisville met in the series finale and ended in a close 4-3 win for the Hokies. Ally Alexander went 2-for-2 at the plate and Daisy Hess went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Brooke Gray took the loss in the circle for the Cards to move to 3-2 on the season after pitching 4.1 innings and giving up three earned runs. 

This will be the first meeting between South Dakota and Louisville.
